Friday Prayer

We talked about prayer last week and the need to be open to sharing our faith. This week has continued these ideas as I have studied the text. The Lord is really convicting me of our need to pray as a church. God has blessed us even though we have not prayed like we should. He has been gracious and kind to His church. If we want to see His glory, we must show our reliance on His power and grace in our life. He wants to do things for His church, we must want to see Him work.

I have been reading a short book by JC Ryle. It is really convicting. I have found it on line at two different locations.

Here is one of the convicting passages in the book:

“A person may preach from false motives. A person may write books and ,make fine speeches and seem diligent in good works, and yet be a Judas Iscariot. But a person seldom goes into their closet and pours out their soul before God in secret, unless they are in earnest. The Lord himself has set his stamp on prayer as the best proof of conversion. Just in case you are wondering. I am posting some things through Twitter. You can still keep up here at this site. Twitter is just a lot quicker and easier for me. So if you are wondering what the stuff at the left is, it is the twitter posts. basically it allows me to post from my cell phone or computer.

It is another tool. It can connect people.

Monday Prayer

If you are looking for a great resource for 1 Timothy 2:1-8, the Presidential Prayer Team would fit the bill. You don’t have to buy anything. A person can sign up but it is just as easy to visit the web site and find prayer needs. It is neat, the people who put it together really think about what to list. They know the president’s schedule and have insight into his needs. There are also some other interesting things to read about our nation’s history.

The PPT also has a section for adopting troop to pray for. If you have every thought about praying for a member of the military this is a good way to start.

Remember, we need to pray for our leaders.

This video is a forum of four pastors. They are dealing with the question of church discipline. Specifically, the questions of how to treat a person who has been unrepentant and has been brought before the church. They have good insight into a difficult situation.

Bible study tools are important. We have so many things at our disposal, it is truly amazing. No Christians in any other period in history have the things we have.

Roger came by today and as we talked he showed me some of the things he uses to read, study and listen to the Bible. I have linked them here so you have access to them.

I know some of the folks in the church have begun using the ESV. Here is a site that has the options to read and listen.

Here is a site that allows for reading several different versions. It also has some tools that would be helpful for study.

Both of these are great sites that aid in study.

Thank you for the encouragement concerning last Sunday’s message. It is easy to preach when people appreciate the Word of God and can tolerate a limited messenger.

We can learn to love one another rightly when we care enough to help keep each other out of sin. Is it difficult, yes. But so is labor and from the women I have talked to over the years, it also is worth it.

How do we start practicing church discipline? First, remember that it is not a suggestion, but a requirement for Christians to lovingly confront each other. Next, examine motives. What are we trying to accomplish? Is it a sin we are addressing or simply some point of disagreement? Then pray for wisdom to handle things well and love for the person you are confronting.

Things are going better here computer wise. I think I have found out the problem, Microsoft. Need I say more. However, I we can now send and receive email and browse with confidence. Does that sound like a commercial or what?

I mentioned that there were two articles that were helpful in my prep from last week. The second was from a man in New Zealand. He is a minister in Hamilton, NZ. His article, Church Discipline: An Act of Love, is very good. What do you think?

Its late on Monday, the afternoon actually. I have been having computer problems. I am praying that God would take the thorn from me… (II Corinthians 12:7-10). Until I get these problems resolved, I will rely on a couple of things I found during my study last week. The first is an article written by Al Mohler. Dr. Mohler is the president of Southern Seminary, where I did my Masters work. He is far smarter and more eloquent than I am. His article is on Church discipline. Putting a link to an article in a blog, does not mean that I agree with everything in the article, but that I think the author is presenting ideas worth considering. What do you think?

I will try to get things up and running here so that more will come.

We were supposed to begin the listening through the Bible on the Monday after Easter. We will begin next week. It will be a great way to spend spring. Be praying that God will use our listening to His word to change our fellowship.
